The students DO NOT need to wear swim suits. Come dressed in play clothes with sunscreen already on.

Busy Week

This is the last week for tests so be sure to study, study!

Wednesday

AR slide party during PE. Be sure to put sunscreen on your child if they need it. We will not have time in class to stop and apply sunscreen before we go outside. This is still a school day and we will be reviewing for our reading and vocabulary test that  they will take Thursday. We will take our MATH test after the slide party.

Thursday

Field day is from 8:30-11:00. Be sure to put sunscreen on your child before school if they need it. We will not have time in class to stop and apply sunscreen before we go outside. Students need to come to school in their swimsuits and play clothes. We will be playing games that have water involved. Be sure to pack a beach towel and a change of clothes. There will be snacks and drinks sold for $1.00, so be sure to pack a few dollars. After field day we will take our spelling, reading, and vocabulary tests.

End of the year party! If your child is coming to school be sure to send a note allowing them to check out with me or a parent driver. If you aren't coming to school meet at the Dichiara's at 10:00. Pick up will be at 2:00 from the Dichiara's home.

Field Trip

Dear Parents,

   I am sorry to announce that due to mechanical issues with the van our field trip to Gulf World will have to be canceled. I know the students are going to be so upset and I hate this so much for them. I have tried every possible way to figure out how to make it work, but it was impossible. Your money will be reimbursed to you. Mrs. Scott and I are going to sit down and see if we can figure something out for us to do around Troy. Again I am so sorry!

  Since we aren’t going on the field trip I thought it would only be fair if we have fun Thursday. I would love to take the class to Party Pad next to Little Caesars around lunch. We would have a picnic outside around 11:30, and I would like to leave the school around 12:00. I would just need two parents to drive. I am planning on taking my car. The kids can play games and putt putt. This has been approved by Mrs. Sikes. I will just need a note saying you give your child permission to go.

If you have any questions please feel free to call me. I know this is last minute and again I am very sorry!

Field Trip Week

This week is going to be a little different due to the field trip on Thursday. Remember your  child needs to be at Pike Lib no later than 6:30. They are allowed to bring something to keep them entertained on the van. Pack a sack lunch (in a paper bag), bring two drinks, and two snacks (one for the way there and one for the way back). We should be back at Pike Lib around 4:00. Those of you who are not going, I will get your numbers and text you when we are getting close.

Pike Liberal Arts Beauty Pageant

K4 - 8th Grades - Monday, April 29 @ 6:00 pm
9th - 12th Grades - Tuesday, April 30 @ 6:00 pm

If you would like to be in the PLAS Beauty Pageant, please fill out an entry form and return it with the $25 entry fee to your homeroom teacher by Friday, April 19.  Checks should be made payable to PLAS Cheerleaders and attached to the entry form.  For more information call Natalie Lankford at 334-672-3301 or Angie Grice at 205-789-6218.  The K4 - 4th Grade contestants will wear heirloom dresses or Sunday dresses/church attire and the 5th -12th Grade contestants will wear floor length evening gowns.

Poetry Contest

April is poetry month and there is a poetry contest that I am entering the students in. We went to type them in the lab today, but the printer wasn't working. I am sending their poems home. Please help your student type the poem and print it out. These need to be turned in Tuesday,  April 9. If you don't have a printer you can just type it and email  it to me and I will print them out on my printer at school! Thanks so much for helping with this!

Next week

Judson's mom will be bringing pizza and cupcakes NEXT Thursday, April 11. Just have your child a drink.

Due to prom next Friday, April 12, we will dismiss at noon. There will be NO after school.

Welcome Back

I hope everyone had a wonderful break, I know I did. I can't believe we only have seven weeks left together! We are about two weeks away from our field trip to Gulf World. I know the kids are excited and I hope you are too!

• Please make sure your kids are reading their AR books we only have four weeks left to take tests.
• We will follow our normal test schedule this week; math, Thursday and Reading/ Vocabulary Friday.
• I am planning for the end of the year party to be the Wednesday or Thursday before the last week of school. Just to let you guys know ahead of time!

Since we will be dismissing early on Friday the lunch room is doing pre-orders for lunch. They are having hot dog with chips or hamburger with chips. If you want your child to order lunch I need to know by Thursday.

Pike's Annual Golf Fundraiser to benefit all Pike Sports is scheduled for Monday, March 11th at Troy Country Club. There is a $400 Team Entry Fee and a $100 Individual Entry Fee. Dr. Seuss Day

We are having a birthday party for Dr. Seuss on Friday. If you would like to send a snack with your child to share with the class I would really appreciate it! Let me know if you would like to help!

State Project

The students will be completing a state project. They know what state they are responsible for learning about. We will be doing the research in class, but if you would like to go to the library to check out books on their state you can. I have a sheet they will have to fill out. It is ALL the information they will need to know about their state. They are required to make a brochure, poster, or an advertisement for their state (this will need to be completed at home). They will present their state March 8th during class. They can bring something to share with the class or dress up if they would like, but that is not required. We will begin our research on tomorrow! HERE ARE SOME EXAMPLES OF WHAT I AM LOOKING FOR.

Read Across America day

It is almost Read Across America Day aka Dr. Seuss Day, it is March 1. We are doing a door decoration contest, and I need every child to bring in a blue jean back pocket. It can be off an old pair old jeans, but I need to students to bring this by Monday, February 25. Also, we will be dressing up like Dr. Seuss characters that day, so be thinking of a great costume!

Field trip money is due no later than March 18th

Students should be reading at least 30 minutes a night. The end of the third nine weeks is approaching quickly and the students need to make their AR goals.

I would like to have an Easter party. It is a month away, so we have time to plan. If you would like to help or have a fun idea please let me know!

Field Trip

The parents that are going to ride in the van are:

If you can't go please let me know because I have other parents that would like to go. The money for the trip is due by March 18th.

Valentines

We will be having a Valentines Day swap. I am going to bring the students a sweet treat to eat while they swap. Make sure to bring enough for everyone, I have 13 students.

Field Trip

The following is information reguarding our field trip to Gulf World:

It will be Thursday, April 18, 2013.

We will meet at Pike Lib at 6:15 and leave by 6:45 (at the latest).

It will cost $28.00 for child and $36.00 for chaperons. This includes van, gas, and ticket to gulf world.

You will need to pack a sack lunch and a drink. We will not stop to get food. We will eat during the Bottle-nose Dolphin Show.

There will be time for the students to go to the gift shop before we leave to get a souvenir.

We will leave Panama City at 1:30 and will return no later than 4:00.

We can take along seven parent chaperons (per class). Out of my seven chaperons two will need to be drivers.

I messed up putting the grades in yesterday; it was on the SG2 under history. I updated the grades and posted the correct grades to edline. I am so sorry for the confusion.

Valentine's Candy Grams

The Government Club is trying to raise money for the 2013 Youth in Government programs. We are asking for you help. We are starting to sell our Valentine's Candy Grams tomorrow and continue through February 13. They will be delivered Thursday morning to your child's classroom. Candy Grams will be a sucker with a note attached that your child can send to whomever they would like to. Each Candy Gram will be fifty cents.

Spring Field Trip

We have decided where we will take our spring field trip! We are going to Gulf World in Panama City! I am very excited about this trip because I know the students will have so much fun and learn a lot from the different shows! We are taking three, twelve passenger vans, so we have to limit the amount of parents that can go. There can only be four parents from each class to come with us on this trip; out of those eight parents three will need to drive the vans. I am sad that we can't take along everyone, but with it being such a small class we didn't want to make the cost too high by adding another van. It will cost $42.00 for each child, add $28.00 for parent. This includes the ticket price, van rental, and gas for the van. Each child will need a sack lunch with a drink. We will eat at a picnic area around Gulf World. If you would like to go or be a driver please email me. I will draw to see which parents get to go. Again, I am sorry that we have to put a limit on the amount of parents, but please understand.  

We are looking at two different dates in April and I will let you know as soon as we decide.

We will leave PLA at 7:00 a.m and return around 4:30 p.m

Parents,

The lunchroom is implementing their new food prices, so please make sure you send enough money with your child. They do not allow charges. If you will notice some prices remained the same and others went up just a little bit. If you lost your menu let me know and I will make you a copy to keep at home.

Also, I am trying to figure out what we are doing for our next field trip. I will be letting you know ASAP. It will be sometime in March or April.

My computer is fixed!

My computer is fixed!! I will post grades, hopefully by the end of the day. If I do not get them in this afternoon then they will definitely be posted tomorrow. I hope all of you had a wonderful long weekend.

Test

I am sending home Friday Folders today. These grades are from the week before we got for Christmas break. You will be getting grades for the new nine weeks starting next week.

We will have our first history test next Tuesday. I will be giving a study guide to the students today, and we will review it on Monday. This is NOT homework. We will complete the study guide in class.

The students will have a lanuage test on "usage" Wednesday. We will have plenty of review time next week. The test covers page 86-96 in their language book if you would like to study with your child.

Spelling

I am going to give everyone the bonus word this week on their spelling test because I misspelled the word when I gave it to them on Monday. The corrected spelling is generosity.

Welcome Back!!!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas. I can't believe half of the year is already over! We still have so much to learn and many more fun activities. I wanted to let everyone know we will resume with our "normal" schedule next week. We will begin our new novel, Stone Fox, Monday.

The annual deer hunt will be January 11-13. This is the largest fund raiser for our school. We are asking each family to send $5.00 to help with the cost of the food. The money needs to be sent  in an envelope labeled "deer hunt." Please have they money turned in by January 10th.
