Labor Day is Monday

Next week is a short but busy week! I want to remind everyone, there will be NO SCHOOL on Monday. We have several tests next week that I want you to know about.

Wednesday:
Science Test (Chapter 1:  nervous system and our senses.)
Language Test (Capitalization)
Math Speed Drill (x2 & x3)

Thursday:
Math Test

Friday:
Reading Test
Spelling Test

Math Test

There will be a math test tomorrow. Your student will need to study over the following:

· adding and subtracting up to 3 digits

· multiplying by 2's and 3's

· Roman Numerals up to 12

· money using a dollar sign and decimal point

· measurement (yard, feet, inches)

· tell time

Field Trip

I called to make the reservations for our field trip this morning. The date we had originally planned is full. The new date is November 27, 2012. I went ahead and made reservations for those who told me they wanted to go on the field trip.  Sorry about this, I was told these shows fill up fast, but I wanted to make sure I gave everyone an opportunity to go. Let me know if you cannot go and I will take your name off the list. Again, I am very sorry if this is an inconvenience for anyone.

Announcement

Due to the weather there will be NO after school activities today. Cheerleading practice and the game have been postponed until October. School will still be in session as of now. I will keep everyone updated.

Friday's Test

The students will take their reading, spelling, and language test tomorrow. I have told them to take their books home to help them study.

Field trip letter

 Our first field trip is scheduled for November 28, 2012 to The Alabama Shakespeare Festival. We are going to see A Christmas Carol. I have to make the reservations on Friday, August 23, 2012, so please, email or send a note if you would like to come with us no later than Friday. There are a limited amount of seats and they fill up fast.

I have to make the payment two weeks after the reservations are booked. Please send your child’s money,  $16.00 and your money, $18.00 if you are going by September 5, 2012.  We are planning to use parent drivers as our means of transportation, but that might change, which means the cost will change. I will keep you informed if we have to take a bus. I hope some of you will be able to come! I love Christmas, and I think this play will get us all in the Christmas spirit!

GREAT FIRST WEEK!!!

• We start our regular schedule on Monday.
• Math test Thursday.
• Spelling and Reading test Friday.
• "Get to 30" due Friday
• If you are going to write a check to the lunchroom make your check payable to The Pig Cafe.
• I sent home a t-shirt form in your child's homework folder. This is the PLAS 2012 shirt.
• If you have any blank note-cards around the house will you send them with your child? You don't have to go buy them. We can make flashcards if your child does not bring them on Monday.

Spelling Homework

I am doing spelling a little different. You will find the paper with all the information on it in your child's homework folder. Please keep these somewhere safe because we will use this for the entire year. Each Friday morning their “Get to 30” is due. You will see that there are different activities worth different amount of points. As long as your child has 30 points it does not matter what combination they do. My hope is that this activity will get them excited to do homework, and help them learn their spelling words! If you have any questions about this feel free to email me. We will start this on Monday.

Lunchroom

The lunchroom is doing things a little different this year. They will no longer accept charges, so make sure your child comes to school with money.

First Day

The first day went GREAT! Just a reminder please try to get those forms in ASAP. Also, please get your child a composition notebook by Monday. You can find them at Walmart for 50 cents. The kids do not have any homework tonight. There won't be any test this week. We will start with our regular schedule next week!

Forms For Monday

Don't forget your forms for Monday. It is fine if you don't turn the handbook form in on Monday, but please try to have everything in Wednesday. I enjoyed meeting everyone today, and I can't wait to start our year together! Have a GREAT weekend!

Supply List

The school year is about to begin!! Here is a list of supplies that your child will need!

• Ruler with inches and centimeters
• 2 packs of loose-leaf paper
• 4 pocket folders
• 1 box of crayons (24 pack)
• 1 box of markers
• 1 bottle of liquid glue
• 1 dozen #2 pencils
• 1 pair of scissors (no blunt tip)
• 1 pack of forks
• 1 pack of spoons
• Clorox wipes
• 1 3-roll pack of paper towels
• 2 boxes of Kleenex tissue
• 4 business size envelopes with postage stamp and your name and address to send report cards home
•  1 large supply box
• 1 Steno-pad
• 1 spiral notebook
• 1 container of Germ-x
